This is a tool to examine perspectives on an issue, but the result will be a justified decision based on the results. It forces individuals or groups to examine options before making decisions.
The plusses, minuses and implications (PMI) chart helps students to organise their evaluation of an issue, compare disadvantages and advantages and to make informative decisions based on shared ideas.
In the plus column students enter all the positive elements of an issue, in the minus column students enter all the negative elements. The third column is for students to enter the elements that cannot be classified as either positive or negative, but as an 'interesting' issue. Alternatively this can be a list of implications.
As an example, i would like to create a PMI chart focussing on the use of blogs and wikis in schools. Some have argued that the use of Wiki's and Blogs should be banned in schools. What are your thoughts?
Plus (all the positives)
Minus (all the negatives)
Implications (the potential outcomes whether positive or negative
*Use Blog as a learning journey. Not just focussing on school, but incorporate real life experiences into blog and wiki.

*Editing of wiki can lead to errors and mistreatment of others work.
